If you are replacing an entire section, make the cut so it is flush with the seams of the other pieces. The longer the piece, the more the seams will spread apart. A longer piece will make your siding look nicer.

Slide your new piece in place, bottom up. Then secure the top piece with the nail hem. If you have to cut off the nail hem to get a straight top slide, use a sharp utility knife. You might need to make several cuts to get the right dimensions with the siding. Once you have it in place and you secure it with nails or rivets, you want to make sure they match the color of the siding. You can always paint them to match so they do not stand out and make your home look unappealing.
